Greetings and felicitations! Thank you for considering me. After 30 years as a senior computer networking and desktop support engineer, I decided to move on. As a hobby, I've been repairing and renovating homes since Elementary school. My skills evolved to the point where I gutted and renovated entire bathrooms for family members. The renovations included installing new technologies for hot and cold water piping, drain, waste, and vent lines from the roof to the basement. I've installed new windows for attics, bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. I framed the interior walls for pocket doors and learned how to tile bathrooms myself. I researched how to install electric radiant heated floors and did it! From 5th grade onward, it was a learn-as-you-go experience. I made mistakes but overcame them. My elderly mother and her cats appreciated the heated floor. If you are interested, contact me for some photos and videos of these projects. They are available upon request.
I've run new electric service, including sub-panels, by myself, work that impressed professional electricians. I've installed over 15 new windows in my mother's house, following instructions from books and websites. I've patched a few holes with drywall and restored the wood molding to new. I've soldered copper plumbing pipes and installed new P.E.X. tubing.
After 30+ years of D.I.Y. repairs, I have a practiced eye when evaluating homes I visit. Many people told me, "You should be a home inspector." I thought about it, researched it, and realized home inspection would fit me well. I've seen leaning walls, cracks, leaky plumbing, sagging floors and roof lines, wet plaster, poorly installed drywall, and poor craftsmanship since I was a young man helping my dad and neighbors fix the family homestead. I've done handy-man repairs for many neighbor's houses as well.
I'm educated, with a B.S. in accounting from SUNY Binghamton. I'm well-read, inquisitive, and personable, with a level of skepticism only age can bring. I am a technologist and self-learner with other skills, such as computer repair, appliance repair, and advanced-level automobile repair skills. I've lawnmower and automobile engines. I do all but the heaviest repairs to my car. I'm self-taught in automobile electrical diagnosis and repair as well. I've chased electrical gremlins in computers, homes, and automobiles.
Why hire me? You'll get a skilled and knowledgeable inspector looking after your interests. During my college accountant training, I was taught the concept of "Professional Skepticism" and not to believe anything you read. I've brought this skepticism with me while evaluating homes. I might not tell you what you want to hear, but I will tell you what you need to know.
If you are interested, please get in touch with me for a free consultation.
Thank you.
